Weekly River & Hatches Update
August is the month that defines sight fishing when stealth, patience, concealment and presentation are at a premium. Be prepared when fishing in theses warmer temperatures, stay cool, well covered and get ready to catch the magic evening rise. Don't forget it's the week to catch our special 2 for 1 offers at Barton Court and Compton Chamberlayne this month!
Weather:
This week is looking a lot cooler with sunny intervals and highs of 23 degrees. Perfect conditions for a return to more active feeding windows. There may be some light rain towards the end of the week too. Expect gentle to moderate breezes. Sunrise: 06:11 Sunset: 20:03 GMT. UV: Medium, Pollen: Low, Pollution: Low. Pressure: 1019mb, Rising.
River Flows:
We are so desperately waiting for some rain! River flows are still running from Low to Normal, as rated by the Environment Agency.
Hatches:
Sit back and watch the hatches of the olives, sedges and midges as the last week of August brings cooler evenings, golden light and rising fish!
Fly Patterns:
Grey Wulffs and Parachute Adams have been amongst the favourites used on the rivers this week. These classic dry flies can mimic mayflies, caddis or even midges. For nymphing, size 14 Shrimps and Beaded Pheasant Tails have worked a treat, especially when fishing the deeper pools.
Our Seasonal tips:
Lighter gear is the one. Think harder about lighter tippets, concealment and keeping the sun to your face. Shadows and line flash will give you away in a moment. Late August is also peak season for land-based insects landing into the water like the Daddy Long Legs, Beetles and Ants. You could always try a small nymph on the dropper too!
