Western Court River Alre & Trophy Lakes

Western Court is a tranquil fishery at the head of the Itchen valley, a mile from the bustling Hampshire market town of Alresford but just 45 minutes from the M25.

The lakes & river are Fishing Breaks very own, immaculately maintained by our river keepers. The facilities are top class with a comfo rtable Fishing Cabin that overlooks the water. There are three well-stocked, gin-clear lakes with plenty of double figure rainbows & blue trout. The beat on the River Alre has a thriving wild brown trout population, which we supplement with a few locally reared brown trout.

What makes this different to most lake fisheries is the very light fishing pressure; usually day ticket lakes are fished seven days a week on a put-and-take basis. However, Western Court is reserved exclusively for our teaching & group days. The result is that Western Court is only fished two or three days week, allowing the fish to thrive mostly undisturbed.

This is a unique opportunity to have your own private river & lake fishery for the day. With exclusive use, your party is free to roam over all the lakes & river. Western Court has wild brown trout fishing on the River Alre (Itchen tributary) and three picturesque lakes stocked with rainbows & blues, including one lake where the fish of less than 5lbs do not count to your limit.

As far as we know this is the only beat available to Day Rods on the River Alre, the prime tributary of the River Itchen. For over two decades this beat was totally unfished and after extensive restoration Western Court is now a top-rated wild trout beat, supplemented with careful stocking.
The water is gin-clear, the flow fast & the fishing has a wide variety of swift shallows, deep pools & meandering glides.

NB The Ordnance Survey map shows a railway line crossing the river. This is only used by the Watercress Steam Railway that runs infrequently

Price includes unrestricted use of river & lakes (subject to normal catch limits) for four Rods, plus a Guide/Instructor, tackle, flies & VAT. Additional Rods cost £125/person.
