Fish & GolfDave Thomas has to be credited with creating a golf course that is both aesthetically faultless and a great challenge for the golfer. Many regard the PAR 72, 7045-yard course as the best in the region. The two nines are very different in character; the front nine is very undulating on higher ground and has stunning views over three counties, whilst the back nine can be described as classic parkland, with an abundance of beautiful trees and water hazards that can unnerve the bravest. As a member for the day you have full use of the Country Club facilities. There is an extensive club house, pro shop, restaurant and bar. The practice putting green and driving range is as good as any you will find. The River Lambourn, which runs through the golf course grounds, is a classic, small chalkstream. Very clear and fast, it has a thriving population of wild trout that are supplemented during the season with some locally reared stocked fish. It is a wading beat that is ideal for one or two Rods and a light outfit. Sight fishing is at a premium, with nymph or dry fly allowed all season. The Lambourn is well known for a heavy Mayfly hatch in June and good hatches all season long.
