Chalk stream Fishing
River Allen
River Allen is a lovely pure chalk stream that runs through the finest countryside in Dorset. With a total length of thirteen miles, the Allen is a tributary to the Stour, the two rivers coming together just outside Wimborne Minster and entering the sea at Christchurch, as does the Avon.
Like the Ebble and many of its Dorset and Wiltshire chalk stream counterparts, the Allen in its uppermost reaches is a winter bourne. Its permanent summer source is in springs above Wimborne St Giles, though in a wet winter or spring the water breaks from the chalk subsoil further upstream.

The River Allen is one of Dorset’s chalk stream
gems, a true wild trout paradise in the most genteel and quaint
English village you might ever wish to visit.
The fishing on the Estate divides into two distinct styles.
The Village Water is the all wading beat that runs from the
village itself upstream for over a mile to the Perennial Spring
which daily provides millions of gallons of the purest water.

As you fish up through the meadows with the Georgian Church tower
to your back, the low-thatched cottages frame the river and The
Bull Inn awaits you for lunch and to quench an evening thirst.
The Home Beats below the village are all bank fishing and less
tricky; the water depth is greater than the Village Water and the
fish tend to be larger, but once again it’s idyllic chalkstream
heaven.
