Chalk stream Fishing

River Ebble - The most unspoilt chalkstream in England

The River Ebble is an outstanding little river, just 7 miles long rising due west of Salisbury flowing south westerly through sheep grazed meadows to join the Avon just south of the cathedral city.

The Ebble is the first ever river in Britain to receive the coveted Wild Trout Designation from the Environment Agency. It was chosen because of its prolific wild trout population, unspoilt character, absence of stocking and uniquely the only chalkstream that has absolutely no abstraction or fish farms in its catchment.

BISHOPSTONE MEADOW

The Ebble is arguably the most definitively wild trout river in southern England and Bishopstone Meadow is the only beat available for day tickets on this idyllic Wiltshire stream.

The fishing consists of the main river, which is just 5-8 yards wide and a deeper, faster carrier which is only 2-3 yards wide. This is not the type of beat to fish and cast all day on, but rather one where you creep up on visible fish, using the lightest of tackle. It is as much about taking your time between forays on to the river and relaxing in this peaceful spot.

Bishopstone is all catch and release. Wading is not in any way necessary, but you are welcome to do so if you wish. There is only sufficient fishing for one person.
